5 musical artists I wish I’d discovered earlier

Posted in Culture, Entertainment, Life, Music, Random, Thoughts on Aug 12, 2007

Not sure if anyone else does this, but I always seem to discover my favourite musicians months after everyone else. I’m not sure why; maybe they just take a while to grow on me. Anyway, these are some of the ones I wish I’d discovered earlier and the songs that got me hooked. :)

5) Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
Song: As I Sat Sadly By Her Side

4) Sarah Blasko
Song: Always On This Line

3) Snow Patrol
Song: Signal Fire

2) Portishead
Song: Glory Box

1) Keane
Song: Somewhere Only We Know

Thumbs up for Snow Patrol. :)
CJ: Thanks, TT. Chasing Cars was just everywhere for weeks, so I kind of avoided it… and kicked myself later after hearing Signal Fire and Hands Open. Ah well… better late than never. ;)

that’s a nice snow patrol song, a change from the annoying piano tinkling in chasing cars! (it wasn’t annoying when i first heard it, though.)

if you watched last season’s american idol, you might have known that keane song. it’s lovely, of course. nice piano tinkling there! :P
CJ: I know the feeling. The first few times you hear Chasing Cars, it’s great… then the piano makes you run screaming from the room. Ah, the radio ruins so many great songs…

I’d heard the Keane song a few times, but had never really heard the whole thing until a couple of months ago. Now they’re one of my favourite groups. Funny how that happens. ;)

I love a good Best Of list. There’s nothing more fun than reading through a list of the best novels or films of all time and then debating the order with a friend. Over the years there have been quite a few of these Best Novels lists, most notably Modern Library’s list in 1998 which [...]
